Get ready for an AMAZA-ing Cape Carnival

Multichoice City in Johannesburg was briefly transformed yesterday when press were awarded with a small taste of the renowned Cape Carnival. M-Net was kind enough to give the press a sneak peek into the festivities that are going to take place this weekend of the 18th of March in Cape Town along the Fan Walk in Green Point.

The gorgeous Samba dancers

Real life dancers and drummers from the distinguished Brazillian school of Samba “Unidos da Tijuca” graced the stage to show off their incredible skills. The sparkling ladies even managed to coerce media to get up and dance with them and it was quite a sight to behold. One can only imagine what the parade is going to be like.

The Cape Carnival was started in 2010 and is still running strong with the 2017 theme of “Amaza- Ocean Odyssey” set to bedazzle spectators this year. Stars from all around the world will be performing including the New York based singer and most recent winner of Trace Stars; the gorgeous Oshri Elmorich. He gave a powerful performance of his debut worldwide release “Crazy but free” which has been chosen as the Cape Carnival’s theme song for 2017.

Cape Town is going to come to a near standstill this weekend as over 50 000 spectators from across the world come together to witness people from divided communities all come together to put on this spectacular jewel event. What I love about the Cape Carnival is that is that even though the festivities are all in the name of fun, the unity and job creation it brings is simply enormous. Ranging from float and puppet building and costume design for all of the creative’s to logistics ensuring a smooth parade, there is something for everyone.

Spectators can expect an assortment of dazzling costumes donned by over 2000 performers and musicians including rock pool creatures and shipwrecks. Local celebs will also be joining in on the fun. Idols judges and former contestants, Suidooster TV series members and personalities from local entertainment-new TV show ‘V Entertainment’ will be signing autographs. Last but not least, award winning DJs Fresh and Euphonik from Channel O will be there to keep the festivities going with their post-parade after party. The open-air bash will be hosted from a giant sea-urchin shaped float. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes for a most memorable day.
